What Are You Reading?: Kristina Wise

What book are you reading currently?

Right now, I am reading “Daring to Hope” by Katie Davis. This is her second book, following “Kisses from Katie”, which entails the story of how she left everything behind in the USA to move to Uganda, adopted thirteen children, and created a ministry called “Amazima.” (Don’t worry, you can get this much information from the book cover, so no spoilers!)

What has been your favorite thing about the book?

I have really enjoyed the differences between this book and her first book. Kisses from Katie was more about her journey of leaving everything behind in the USA, adapting to another country, adapting to being a foster and then adoptive mother, and really just her story.

This book, Daring to Hope, really gets down to the nitty gritty, the trials and heartache she has endured along the way, and the hope that got her through.

How has this book challenged you?

This book has been such a challenge to (1) my faith in the rough times and heartache that is inevitable in life and (2) putting my hope in the one thing that is truly worth putting your hope in; Jesus.

Do you relate to any of the characters/if so why?

I relate to Katie in that there have been hard times in my life where I have had to hold onto the few things in the world that seemed to make the hard days okay, and one of those is the Lord.

I also have felt a passion towards mission in Uganda for years and I am waiting on the Lord’s call to tell me when to go and what to do when I get there. I have let fear hold me back from going because what if I get there and God tells me to stay and adopt thirteen children like Katie? Oh to have the faith that Katie had.

Would you recommend this to your friends?

I would absolutely recommend both this book and her first book to anyone who likes to read.

I’ve even followed her on Instagram! (Obsessed, maybe?)
