Spotlight: Rebekah Callahan

1. Tell us a little bit about who you are (where are you from, family, work, etc)

I’m Rebekah Callahan (that’s a really new last name) and I’m originally from Atlanta, GA. I have a BA in Musical Theatre from Kennesaw State University (Hooty, hoo—GO OWLS!) and just finished my MA in Biblical Counseling. I’m married to a cool dude named Chris. I have a dad and mom (St. Augustine, FL), three big sisters (various locations), three big bro-in-laws (various locations with my sisters), one lil bro (Army, aka all over), and one lil bro-in-law (UNCW). I have 2 adorable nephews and 2 precious nieces (one here, one with Jesus). I work as a House System and Discipleship coordinator at SEBTS in the SA&D office and love it!

2. If you had a free day and unlimited money, what would you spend your day doing?

Honestly I would probably fly to NYC and spend the day going to musicals and coffee shops. And if I met Jimmy Fallon and got on his show, I wouldn’t be mad.

3. Who is the most influential person in your life?

My mom and three big sisters. Cliché? Probably. Honest truth? Yep. My mother is courageous, strong, fiercely loyal, and obeys Christ, even when it’s hard. I admire my sisters and look up to them in so many ways. They have been through some of the most unimaginable things and yet have still looked to Christ in it all. I admire their love of life, their families, and their Savior. All four of those women have helped shape me into who I am today.

4. What is one book that you think everyone should have on their bookshelf?

Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands: People in Need of Change Helping People in Need of Change by Paul David Tripp. Whether or not someone feels specifically called to counseling, we are all called to love one another, to hold each other accountable, and to call fellow Believers out and up in life. I have gone back to this book over and over and whether needing advice/reminders in a counseling, discipleship, or friendship setting.

5. What is a verse that you would consider your “life verse”?

I have two, if that’s okay.

1.     Lamentations 3:22-23. This is a verse that is a constant reminder that each and every day is a new testament to the Lord’s faithfulness—He will always be there. It also reminds me that because of the Lord’s great love, I don’t have to be overwhelmed or consumed with life with it gets incredibly hard.

2.     The other is found in John 6:66-69. Jesus asks His disciples if they want to leave Him. Peter answers with one of my favorite lines from the Bible, “Where else would I go, Lord?” this has been a theme in my life. I’ve gone to so many different places, different things that I thought would be IT all to come back and echo the words of Peter, “Where else can I go, Lord? For You have the Words of eternal life…” There’s nowhere else, no one else I can go to and I pray I never forget that!

6.  What are three words that people would use to describe you?

Loud. Energetic. (and I hope) Loyal.
