Spotlight: Whitley Fowler

1.       Tell us a little bit about who you are (where are you from, family, work, etc)

I grew up in Garner, North Carolina. My dad has been a youth pastor at the same church for 22 years—so I grew up going to church a few times a week. My mom works in Raleigh for a recycling plant. I have two brothers, one older (25) and younger brother (21)! I am finishing up my senior semester at the College at Southeastern and graduating with my BA in Humanities. I hope to go to graduate school for school counseling and invest in the lives of high school students in an educational setting.

2.      If you had a free day and unlimited money, what would you spend your day doing?

I would quickly buy and jet and fly to Australia with 10 of my closest friends and family. Australian shopping would allow me to buy the most expensive dress I could find. After spending the day hiking and eating local cuisine, my party of 11 would venture to the Sydney Opera House and enjoy an evening pretending I was more important than I actually am.

3.      Who is the most influential person in your life?

The most influential person in my life is my father. He is the person I look up to the most in my life. As he seeks the Lord consistently, he loves me and leads my family with humility and grace. I’m thankful for him in my life.

4.      What is one book that you think everyone should have on their bookshelf?

The book that is changing my life right now is New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp. It’s a daily devotional that is short enough to read in 5 minutes but long enough to chew on for the rest of the day. I would encourage everyone to read it and work their way through it.

5.      What is a verse that you would consider your “life verse”?

There have been many verses that I have clung to in hard situations to carry me through. However, the one I continue to come back to is Ephesians 3:14-21.

“For this reason I kneel before the Father  from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.  I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit,  and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love,  may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love,  and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

 Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

6.      What are three words that people would use to describe you?

The words people have used to describe me in the past is loyal, quirky, and driven.
