Spotlight: Bre Brunswick

1.    Tell us a little bit about who you are (where are you from, family, work, etc)

I have lived in Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. I call Wake Forest home with my husband, Sam, and our two dogs Sally and Evie! I am an English major with a minor in Writing, Rhetoric and Communications here at the College at Southeastern. I have a passion for helping women recognize and own the unique gifts and talents that they have so that they can use them to further the kingdom of God be it in ministry, on the mission field, in the workplace, or at home. I also love writing (even academic writing!) and work in the Writing Center on campus along with being an assistant to Missie Branch, our very own ADOS to women and Director of Graduate Life.

2.       If you had a free day and unlimited money, what would you spend your day doing?

Hm… I would go ahead and do the adult thing and buy a house and pay off loans, then I would definitely do a food and shopping tour and fill my new house with plants and pretty things.

3.       Who is the most influential person in your life?

My mom is my hero. My family has been through a lot this past year and my mom has been phenomenal. She is such a rock for my siblings and I and always puts others before herself. She is incredibly selfless and passionate. If I can be a fraction of the woman she is I will be golden.

4.       What is one book that you think everyone should have on their bookshelf?

This is an incredibly difficult question to ask an English major. I really love the book “The Lowland” by Jhumpa Lahiri. It is full of beautiful language and complex relationships. If you want to feel super introspective go ahead and read this one.

5.       What is a verse that you would consider your “life verse”?

Can I say a whole chapter? I’m going to say a whole chapter. Psalm 23. We all know it but we really all need to meditate on it.

The Lord is my shepherd;

I have all that I need.

He lets me rest in green meadows;

he leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength.

He guides me along right paths,

bringing honor to his name.

Even when I walk

through the darkest valley,[a]

I will not be afraid,

for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff

protect and comfort me.

You prepare a feast for me

in the presence of my enemies.

You honor me by anointing my head with oil.

My cup overflows with blessings.

Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me

all the days of my life,

and I will live in the house of the Lord

forever.

6.       What are three words that people would use to describe you?

I had to actually ask some friends for this so… Creative, gentle, loyal.
