Spotlight: Rebecca Hankins

1. Tell us a little bit about who you are (where are you from, family, work, etc)

I’m from Mississippi, born and raised. I grew up at the same school and same church until college, both of which were wonderful. I’m an only child, but come from a large and close extended family! During college at the University of Mississippi, I had the opportunity to travel a lot and go overseas on missions several times, including a summer and a semester. It was during all of this that the Lord directed me to a life of ministry and mission (and ultimately to seminary!). I currently work for the International Mission Board doing student mobilization as well as managing our student social media accounts. On the side, I love photographing couples, cityscapes, anything!

2. If you had a free day and unlimited money, what would you spend your day doing?

I’m going to assume this question means I have to spend it on myself, so if so: First, I’d pay all my rent and bills for a long time in advance. Then, I’d invest in all the quality camera gear I want but can’t afford. Lastly, I’d hop on a flight to one of my dream destinations (most likely Scotland) and probably order a ton of stuff on Amazon in the process.

3. Who is the most influential person in your life?

This is such a difficult question to answer. I’d have to say all my best friends! They’re some of the most quality people I could imagine, love to have a good adventure, and keep their priorities focused on their walk with the Lord.

4. What is one book that you think everyone should have on their bookshelf?

The first thing that came to my mind is The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonheoffer.  In the fiction realm, it’s a three-way tie between Les Miserables, Jane Eyre, and the Harry Potter series.

5. What is a verse that you would consider your “life verse”?

Two that have been incredibly meaningful:

Psalm 16:11 -  “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Jeremiah 32:17 –“‘Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.”

6. What are three words that people would use to describe you?

According to my roommate: passionate, creative, wise
